The road travelled so far...
The roots of Henry Williams & Son (Roads) Ltd. date
back to the 19th Century where records have uncovered an early
generation referred to in the writings of Thomas Telford.
At the turn of the 20th Century, Henry Williams began to successfully
operate a busy fleet of canal barges along the Shropshire
Union Canal, delivering roadstone to the counties of Shropshire
and Cheshire.

A company still rolling forward
Incorporated as Henry Williams and Son (Roads) Limited in
1958, the business remains to this day, a family owned limited
company employing a workforce of up to 40 employees and enjoying
a turnover between £1m and £2m per annum. Henry
Williams and Son (Roads) Limited are accredited to Achilles,
Constructionline, CHAS and ISO 9001.
Frank Henry Williams
A major in the Royal Engineers, was called to build and maintain
supply lines behind the trenches dating the First World War.
Putting to use the knowledge and skills he had gained whilst
serving in the military, he returned to operate a number of
quarries within North Wales and Shropshire; some of which
are still in production today.
Eventually, this led to the creation of the surfacing arm
of the company which was responsible for the construction
of many army camps and airfields throughout the Second World
War.
